When people think of Ireland, they generally picture rolling green fields, leprechauns, pints of Guinness, and, of course, beautiful castles. If you are looking to rent an Irish castle that is rich in history and offers an abundance of amenities, then Glin Castle is the perfect location for you.

Glin Castle is one of Ireland’s great heritage houses, and is steeped with over 700 years colourful history, by the FitzGerald family, hereditary Knights of Glin. The present Glin Castle, which succeeds the Medieval ruin in the village of Glin, was built in the late 18th century with entertaining in mind, which is still very much the order of the day at our remarkable property.

Glin Castle stands proudly in its 400-acre wooded demesne on the banks of the River Shannon. Behind the house lie romantic pleasure grounds and a vibrant walled garden, which supplies flowers, vegetables and fruit for the kitchen. The kitchen offers the best in Irish country house cooking and is equipped with everything needed to cater for up to 30 people staying in the house.

The castle comprises 15 luxurious, uniquely decorated en-suite bedrooms. The main building has 12 exceptional bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, ranged over two floors – all beautifully decorated with porcelain and pictures collected over generations, arranged by the late Knight of Glin. There are three slightly smaller en-suite bedrooms in the adjoining wing, with views looking over the garden.

A grand entrance hall, dining room, comfortable library and elegant light drawing-room, all with open fires are waiting to welcome you.

The annual Rare and Special Plant Fair was held at Gin Castle in 2019. This fair was established Board Bia to give the gardening and general public an opportunity to purchase rare, unusual and special plants. It enables specialist nursery owners, many of them small family businesses, to advise about growing rare plants.

Hosting the Rare and Special Plant Fair gave the public an opportunity to visit the Glin Castle special gardens and houses of heritage, which are otherwise not open to the public.

Over the past 18 years, the event has grown in stature and reputation and the fair has been held in some of the most beautiful private, public and state gardens.

The team at Glin Castle were delighted to welcome the fair attendees to our 400-acre estate.

The castle comprises of a working dairy farm, 15 acres of manicured gardens, as well as a walled garden, which supplies all the vegetables and herbs for our kitchen and restaurant.

Catherine FitzGerald, eldest daughter of the late Knight of Glin Desmond FitzGerald, who was an author and President of the Irish Georgian Society, and her husband Dominic West, actor, run the castle.
